Buttercup the cow is a very wise, very loving mother who knows that baby calves need care and love and confidence - and time to grow big and strong. Beginning with his birth in early spring and moving through to late fall, colorful plasticine - relife illustrations follow her calf's growth. Amazingly rich in detail and texture, they add a delightful dimension of humor and charm to this warm, gentle poem - as providing a heightened aware - ness of farm life. Ungainly but endearing, this baby calf will find a place in the hearts of children.

The poem, found in a long - out - of - print anthology, is one of several by Edith Newlin Chase, who obviously had a warm heart.
