The little merman
The Jolly Readers are designed for children who have learned to read and write with Jolly Phonics. There are three series: 'Inky Mouse and Friends', General Fiction and Nonfiction. In all three, the vocabulary is carefully controlled, so children can apply their new reading skills.
At the Green Level (the third level), the stories are longer and introduce more tricky words, which are shown at the end of each book. In addition, 'hop-over ' digraphs are used to make the long vowel sound in words like 'cake', 'these', 'time', 'stone', and 'cube'. As before, light type is used for those few letters that should not be sounded out, such as the < b > in 'lamb' (but not in the new tricky words, which should already be familiar without this help).
The General Fiction series features original stories and retellings of the classics.
